Intensive General English

The Intensive General English curriculum is designed to help students improve their English language ability and develop the student’s confidence in using English for general purposes.

The core skills of reading, writing, speaking, listening and grammar are integrated into your course. A continuous weekly assessment model allows you to monitor your progress.

There are two Intensive General English programs to choose from; Skills for Jobs and Skills for Careers.

Skills for Jobs

20 hours per week

Learn English with a focus on gaining skills and understanding which will enhance your job prospects. You will improve your language and communication skills but also be equipped with training and certifications that will enhance your casual job prospects, specifically in the hospitality industry.

  • Business communication and meetings
  • Creating a business plan
  • Word and Excel training and testing
  • Typing and keyboard skills
  • Free assistance from Joblinx including interview preparation and creating a professional resume

Students are required to be at least 17 years of age, to commence study in English Language programs at Sarina Russo Institute.

CORE CLASS – 8:30 – 1:00pm (see timetable above)

  • Learn how English works
  • Core classes focus on: grammar, vocabulary and communication skills
  • You will have access to a huge amount of EXTRA online learning materials 24/7
  • We will measure and track what you CAN DO in class and online! Some examples of what you CAN DO:
    • Pre-Intermediate Students:
    • “I CAN explain my preferences”
    • “I CAN discuss how I fell”
    • “I can talk about a trip”
    • Intermediate Students:
    • “I CAN describe a film”
    • “I CAN make a short presentation”
    • “I CAN answer interview questions”

PLUS: Free support classes (1 hour)

  • Learn how to communicate in a variety of everyday work and social situations
  • Practice vocabulary and grammar learned in class with students from different levels
  • Monday to Friday
  • Length: 1 hour

Our approach to the Intensive General English curriculum’s design and delivery is to help students improve their English language ability with the addition of an online support system.  Our online system allows students to access practice activities anywhere at any time.  We recognise that all English language learners learn in different ways, progress at different rates and have different goals and we believe our curriculum supported by online learning allows all students to meet their own individual language learning goals.

Terms and Conditions

Students will receive a full refund of their tuition fee if they are unable to attain a level of English (your ‘goal level’) as discussed and recorded at orientation on completion of their English Language Assessment (ELA) test.

To be eligible for a full refund of your General English Course tuition fee you must fulfil the following conditions:

  • Completion level goal is within the framework of our current course structure (for example based on 10 weeks per level)
  • A pass is considered “C” grade at the level indicated as your ‘goal level’
  • Students attain 95% attendance
  • Students receive no academic misconduct or formal behaviour warning letters
  • Adherence to all conditions on Course Progress warning letters (if issued during enrolment)
  • All weekly assessments completed.
